Hi Marc and welcome to the forum, as Bub says, very sensible move working your way up to the R1, yiur riding will be all the better for it.

Tell us a bit about your previous bikes, what you likes and what you did on them, we are a somewhat nosey bunch and we like to get to know new members, also some pics of said bikes will help out our Jompy as he cant read, but he loves looking at pictures, and drinking tea all day . This is him and his mate a few weeks ago

Yes we do have a good sense of humour, loads if banter and good humoured p!ss taking, but all in all we are a good biking community, we get on well, most if the time, unless you are trying to sell us a kitchen or an R1M , or a number plate . The guys are also very knowledgable, so any questions just ask, someone will have the answer.

Thanks all for the welcomes and questions.

The reason for wanting the R1 is having always admiring the way they look to be honest. I only did my bike test a few years ago due to lots of traffic issues getting to work due to a 3 year roadwork plan in progress.

I started with an Aprilia RS125 (2004) which was a great bike but hated the L plates so did the full test. Once I had that, even though I am in my late 30's, the R6 was a lot to insure so I bought a 2000 SV650S. It was ok and VGC but I never really bonded with it so three months later and with the insurance dropping by £800 I bought a 2000 R6. This was great but never really liked the aftermarket tail light so I swapped it for the 2001 back end. I really liked this and as I'm still very cautious on the bends it was more capable than I will ever be, but I still had the bug for the R1 so recently purchased a 2005 blue R1.

It's a standard bike, with just colour coded exhaust shield and screen. I've swapped the leavers, put a new chain/sprockets on it and some fresh rubber but am currently waiting for the private plate to come off it so I can tax it and get out on it.

I'll try to get some pics of it resized to a more forum friendly size as my phone seems to make them huge and I'll post them up.
