Fit like?
Hi, I'm Sam new here and relatively new r1 5jj owner, had it a few months now. Been on the big bikes for a few years so still quite new to that aswell.
I'm from up in Aberdeen - roll on the bestiality jokes [emoji1]
I've got ambitions to get on the track at some point soon, not many near us but I'm interested non the less.
I'm on here for some advice, a bit of banter and to fill the gaping holes in my technical knowledge.

Hi Sam, welcome to the forum, we have a lot if members north of the boarder, so you are not alone, in fact you will be a southerner to some of our more northerly members
This is a cracking forum to find anything and everything you need to know about R1's, biking in general, track days or indeed racing. Our forum track days are legendary, and you don't need to be a skilled track day rider to join in, our racing friends on here have and do provide free tuition in the novice group to Amy members who want it, anf they know their stuff.
We are like a big family, generally we get on, we help each other and someone will have the answer to any questions you may have. There is a lot if good humoured banter on the forum and we like a laugh. There are no cliques on here, we are all equal, well appart from Jompy, he is our resident primate so he is ....... Well let's just say he monkey's around
So welcome and join in the fun and banter
Stephen

Re: Fit like?
Welcome in Sam
i recon your going to love the 5jj they're a great bike & can be comfortably ridden fast or slow , if like you say your new to big bikes then just take it steady as they can get you in to trouble very quickly although you probably know that already .
heres a few bit's i copy & paste for the new owners
"
Those 5jj's are a lovely bike , they share a lot of parts with the 4xv like frame, wheels & engines are similar , things that are different are ECU , bodywork i.e. tank , fairing , seat unit & headlight also the radiator & wiring looms are different .
Make sure you look in the 4xv & 5jj sections .
Check the main 20pin white plug on the wiring loom that sits behind the left hand fairing to make sure its in good order & been greased as these can cause problems , the HT leads can break up when old where the plug cap screws on & cause misfire all you need to do is cut 5-10 mm off the end & screw the cap back on , also DON'T tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm its a lot less more like 15-20nm .
get the service manuals and parts micro fiches for both the 4xv & 5jj downloaded , use the online PDF link & down load the parts manuals from there .
http://www.partzilla.com can be helpful for online parts micro fiches for getting part numbers & checking prices in the states as theyre prices are cheaper or you could try https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/browser/ ... bike/yzfr1
enjoy
"
And for posting pic's as we love pic's
get yourself a free photobucket account & follow the idiots guide to posting pics from your pc
posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=10659
if you don't want to open a photobucket account then an alternative is go to
http://tinypic.com/
1 - "choose file" and browse to the image you wish to upload from your PC
2 - In the "resize" drop down choose either 15" or 17" screen (15 is enough and fast too)
3 - Press "upload now" where it will ask you to type in a couple of words to confirm you are a human being and not an automated program.
4 - Once done copy the text from the "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" field
5 - Then just paste it exactly as is in to your message.
or you can post direct from your not so smart phone using tapawank (tapatalk) it's great for posting pic's & notifications but wank for viewing the forum

Thanks for the welcomes, I've got plenty questions about the bike and I'll get some pics up once I've been somewhere. I'll definitely be checking out knockhill, might get to meet a few of you down there!

Re: Fit like?
4th May new to track night Knockhill. If this is your first time on track go to this, great night with instructors to help. I'll be there again no doubt as you are allowed to do 3 of these nights. I got my suspension set up and tyre pressures checked by the KH guys. Relaxed night with a mixture of road and track bikes.

Welcome in mate, I am 30 mile south of Aberdeen and do a trackday or two. Defo worth doing the starter night but beginners in a session day isn't as bad as you think and always boys willing to give you info. 4 of us from town going to cadwell in may for the forum trackday but that may be a bit too soon for you to join in
