Hi people my name is Steve, I have an 06 Yamaha R1 and I live in New Milton on the edge of the New Forest. I have joined this club to chat with other like minded R1 owners and I am in desperate need of help with my bike. I am a member of R1 forum.com but they are mostly members from the states and I don't think they know what riding in the rain is. Fairplay. Anyway Hello to everyone.

i think you've finally found the right place just make sure you have a sense of humour bud & are thick skinned as they all love to take the piss
A lot of us don't ride in the sh!te weather but then theirs still a fair few that do plus the great thing about this forum is that it doesn't slack off in the winter
So you have a 5vy , you'd best get some pic's up & keep the inmates happy , heres some tips on posting pics . . . . .
get yourself a free photobucket account & follow the idiots guide to posting pics from your pc

if you don't want to open a photobucket account then an alternative is go to

1 - "choose file" and browse to the image you wish to upload from your PC
2 - In the "resize" drop down choose either 15" or 17" screen (15 is enough and fast too)
3 - Press "upload now" where it will ask you to type in a couple of words to confirm you are a human being and not an automated program.
4 - Once done copy the text from the "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" field
5 - Then just paste it exactly as is in to your message.

or you can post direct from your not so smart phone using tapawank (tapatalk) it's great for posting pic's & notifications but wank for viewing the forum

I am not sure if the picture of my bike has worked, please let me know. The problem I have with my bike is hard to explain but I will try. When I start the bike from cold I always wait for the low temp reading on the bike to go out, about 40c. Then I ride off but I was riding home in the cold and wet the other night from work and when I opened the throttle and got to 7000rpm (temperature about 60c) its like it has hit a brick wall, it won't accelerate anymore, the revs won't go any higher and it won't increase in speed either but when the bike is at 90c, she is fine no problems at all. Crescent have the bike at the moment, well the past 2 weeks.
They have had it on their rolling road and they have seen the problem but don't know to fix it. They are stumped. They have talked to Yamaha of which they gave them a check list but to no avail. 60c brick wall at 7000rpm, 90c pulls like a train, their words.
I use my bike everyday as I don't have a car and it is driving me nuts not having any transport. They are checking the valves at the end of this coming week as part of Yamaha's check list but I don't think it is the problem but they need checking anyway.
As anybody experienced the same or got any answers please.

Why are they checking the valves?? I would say it's pretty certain to be an electrical fault such as the TPS (throttle position sensor) or something like that.

I don't know but Yamaha want them to check the valves and they do need checking anyway. She has done 40,000 miles and they where last checked at 20,000. So about due. I would have thought TPS but they say they have checked everything. Confused.com

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum.
My 5vy had a similar fault occasionally from cold just as you describe, but as it would only last for a couple of seconds it didn't bother me too much, then ended up selling it before I could be bothered to suss it out.

Hi Steve, great name that cracking looking bike you have there, I hope you get her sorted soon. As for the wank forum, I agree, they have no idea of riding let alone in the rain, and their sense of humour is well ... Non existent , this forum is much much better.

Thanks guys for all your welcomes and thanks for the compliments on the bike. Its my work horse but also my hobby amongst other things, sorry didn't respond earlier but internet here is bad,(didn't even realise my bike pic had loaded,doh!!!) we do live in a small town where the most popular car is an electric wheel chair with leatherites in. So BT don't see us needing decent internet. Shame about selling your bike before fixing a similar problem.
The latest I have heard is that the valves might be opening to much or to little depending on engine temperature. To be honest I am doubtful about the valves but they need checking anyway, it is about due according the service manual.
My biggest worry is if it's not the valves and something else, the bill is going to get big and that scares me and pisses me off as I wanted a new helmet. Pooh!!!!
Anyway thanks for your inputs, your welcomes and compliment (on the bike). Lastly, I haven't delved much on your website yet, mind is elsewhere and I know meeting up can not always be easy but do you guys meet up with millions of other R1's.

Great video that SteveR1, wish I had a cam to show you country road I go down every Saturday night in the pouring rain, I admit I love riding in the rain. Strange I know.
