Hello from Singapore

Post by meng »

Hi all!

Joined this forum a few days again and reckon I should introduce myself. Gotten myself a blue 2015 R1 about 6 months back, and hoping to learn more about the bike from you guys. Traded my Panigale S for this bike and it was definitely a good choice, no regrets so far and having loads of fun! Using it 80% track and 20% street.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Bernard, great choice of R1 you have, has the gearbox been repaired yet?

This is a great forum, people are very helpful, full of advice and tips and knowledge, we are a tad nosy hence we love to hear about new members riding history and how they arrived at buying their R1what they like and love about it or indeed what they don't like so much about it.

We love pics of bikes, they don't have to be Yamaha's any bike is good fir a gander. To post pics follow the links below

Thank you all for the hospitality.

Gearbox is not fixed yet, 17th in line as of last week. In a dilemma on this gearbox issue, one side I wanna get it done, on the other side, I dun want them to open it out after hearing all the horror stories about issues from the other forum. Benefit of doubt, a couple of my friends had their gearboxes recalled and no issue till date. Hopefully it remains that way when it's my turn. I have not noticed any changes in the character of the gearbox, so should be still good till my turn for the recall.

Yup, it's the lacomoto belly pan that fits the cat as well.

Apologies for not replying your pm as I was not able to due to lack of posts.. Thus as trying to clock up more posts so I can reply.

Have since sold off the belly pan as the rear is a little too bulky for my liking and it droops down as well, causing it to sometimes scrap on road humps that are too high.not that fitment is not good, but just the design of the belly pan.

Am on the lookout for a slimmer design that can still fit with the cat

We do not have any racetracks in Singapore, but in Malaysia there are two that we frequent. Nearest to us is 40km away called "Johor Circuit", a technical 3.86km circuit. The other is the famous " Sepang International F1 Circuit" that's about 400km, 4 hour drive away.

For some reason, I thought Sepang was further. I expect you'd go for a weekend to make it worthwhile.

I spent a few days in Singapore a couple of years ago, and was surprised to see big bikes - I thought maybe the government would have a capacity limit. Is it as difficult to own a bike like yours as a car?

Not difficult, although it's getting ridiculously expensive to own a bike, be it big or small

LOCKE wrote:Why is it so expensive meng?
Because of the nonsensical government of having a "Certificate Of Entitlement" in order for the car or motorcycle to be allowed on the roads, as the government's excuse of controlling the number of vehicles on the road. Used to be very bad for cars, but have since trickle down to motorcycles. Price for this piece of COE paper for cars were as high as $70,000 few years back, now hovering around $45k - $55k SGD range.

As for bike, it has shot up to almost $7k. My R1 cost me $40k, while a mate's R1M is $52K.

Exchange rate is 1 British - approximately $2 SGD for easy calculation.

Forgot to add that the price of the COE is separate from the price of the vehicles, which in itself incurs 100% import tax of the vehicle declared import price. That certificate also only allows us to keep our vehicles for 10 years, after which you will have to renew again if you want to continue to use the vehicle on the roads.

Sound crazy right? It is.....

Do you have to pay that every time you change car/bike?
