Hi! New R1 Owner - Tach Problems

Post by Mufasa92 »

Hello!I have a '99 R1 and it does this thing when I start it, the needle starts bouncing from 0 Rpm to 1000 Rpm in a loop until I shut it off. This stops the tach from indicating Rpms.

Welcome in Neacsu
I'm sure the first error code is 3000 rpm and the taco goes from 0-3000 rpm and sits there for a couple of seconds drops to 0 and then reads the actual rpm for a few seconds . It looks like you have an electrical fault or the soldered tracks on the clocks circuit board have cracked with age . Check out your wiring & earth's including the 20pin white main loom connector block behind the left hand side fairing panel . You can apparently ( although I've never done it ) use a heat gun on the clocks circuit board to reset the soldered tracks , 2002r1jon had this done but it didn't work for long
