That'll either be lower a magnet in behind it on a cord or sump off then. How a bout an extending magnet stick thingy?

If it's anything like the 4xv then you'll want 4 exhaust manifold gaskets , i like the copper ones

Or

And Athena sump gasket

Or o.e.m

Sump crush washer o.e.m

Obviously depends on what model R1 you have as you haven't told us & don't over tighten the sump cover bolts or the sump bolt , the sump bolt for some reason has the wrong torque settings in the workshop manual , it should be around 15-20nm not the 40nm stated you should just feel the new sump crush washer squishing

How can the people who write a manual make such an important mistake!!! 40nm is pretty much the torque setting for a something like a sump oil drain plug which is 17mm not something like the sump bolts which are what, 10 or 12mm?

Most of the parts listed in my post will fit the 5vy but if you do want to buy them shout up and either i will or someone else will check them for you .
Have you thought about trying an endoscopy camera ? You can get them on Amazon for around £15 for android devices
You'll need to download cameraFI from Google play for free to use it

Mate sorry i wasn't very clear , 40nm is for the sump plug bolt but it's WAY too high , using 40nm on the sump plug bolt is a sure way to strip the thread which then cracks the sump , i have the a repaired sump cover to prove it and it's quite common ask 2002r1jon !
Shame your so far away bud it would have been nice to have met you at the bar-b-q , Jen speaks highly of you
