Hi All
I was today made aware of this forum via the FB group so thought I’d say hello as I’ve decided to get the bike on the road after a couple of years tucked away as a ‘pending project’ and this looks a great place to build on my very limited knowledge and I could definitely do with a bit of advice on the below couple of points!
As a bit of background, it seems to run well but has been stood for many years (tires are high on the list!).
From what I can gather it has the ‘classic period mods’ of aftermarket undertray, mini indicators and a lairy iridium screen. I’ve found an original silencer (to replace yet more iridium!) and the screen will go as soon as I can locate a clear one. Wheels also look to have been painted but bodywork is nice and as far as I can tell looks original. I also recently spent a good few hours removing a few ‘period’ stickers...
I have an original undertray but am wondering if I’ll also need any additional fixings or parts to put this back to standard?
I’d value any experience on this as don’t want to disable the project further and will just use as is if I need to track down more bits?
History is also a bit sparse so also thinking I’ll get it serviced and valves checked. Also getting the 7k error on rev counter so suspect EXUP needs TLC - does anyone have and recommendations of anyone in the East of the country (I’m in Norfolk) who would be good to get the work done (although guessing it should be fairly straightforward for any decent bike shop)?
I’ve found the site useful already so many thanks in advance for any wisdom/ideas or gentle piss taking if the bike turns out to be a bitsa!
Whilst I’ve had a fairly diverse range of bikes this is the first R1 (and only 2nd Yamaha after a TY250) I’ve had and I’m looking forward to getting it ready for the road as I imagine it will make a nice contrast to my other bikes - a BSA and a KTM Adv!
