Newbie from Stoke-on-Trent

Just joined up and thought I'd say hello

I'm Dan from stoke-on-Trent. Passed my test at 17 and was restricted for 2 years so started playing around with cars instead.

Finally got back into biking 3 years a go at the grand age of 30 and bought myself a bog standard 2002 R6 to get on the road. I've loved it ever since and as I can't leave anything alone here's some pics of my baby as she stands now...

no sh!t ! i know people that have done it , i can't even be arsed to keep my top yoke polished lol
i used to ride through stoke & the A500 to north wales via natwich & chester .

Fortunately for me I'm a fair weather biker so keeping on top of the finish isn't a big job at all as it never gets dirty lol getting it all polished in the first place took a week of solid graft. I booked the school half term off work to spend with the wife and kids but polished the bike instead lol

The R6 section can be a bit slow on here mate but stick around i think your gonna fit in

The R6 could soon be swapped for a 2001 R1 but I can't decide whether to swap or not :/

i've never ridden an R6 so all i can tell you is about my 4xv which is well mannered at low speeds with plenty of torque through the range & mental when you give it a fist full compaired to revvy constant gear changes of the R6 that others have mentioned although the R6 is ment to be lighter & more flickable , like i've said i've never ridden an R6 !

It's in good shape generally but needs a lot of TLC to get it looking tip top like my R6. My old man gave my brother his fazer and bought the R1 18 months a go, he's never used it (except to MOT station and back) and it's not been serviced etc either. Now my brother wants a sports bike but he's not confident enough to have the R1. So I'd be having the R1, my brother having my R6 and my dad would have the Fazer back lol
It could be a money pit... On the other hand once I've spent some time and money on it it could be a "mint" last of the carb models R1 and as we all know... an R1 is what everybody wants, isn't it ???? Just don't know if I can hand the keys of my R6 over to my brother :/ lol

i think if your going to keep it then it's money well spent , unless your modding it the biggest expense is if you have to rebuild the engine , i don't think you'd be disappointed

Lovely looking 6 dude. But ride the R1 first and make your mind up. Just don't try and ride it like the 6 lol.. Good first post and welcome to the mad house

Had my lid painted by a fella, Paul I think his name was at http://www.graf-x.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; he was a very talented bloke and some of the work he does had me in awe. Excellent service, he'll paint anything you want and if you haven't got much of an imagination like me, he's more than happy to sit down and talk through ideas with you

I'm in no doubt I'd love the R1. My main concern is that's it's not been run really for the last 18 months so I don't know how reliable it would be. When my dad bought it, he bought it off a fella who just used to keep it to go the IOM TT on. Hence the rear tyre was squared off and the head bearings needed tightening. Before that it was a police bike so I assume it was looked after quite well then

It also has a slight fault. The sidelights flicker for some reason. I think this could be a dodgy connection somewhere ? Bad earth ? Regulator/rectifier ? Or even stator ? I don't really have a clue. I don't mind getting my hands dirty and having a go but I wouldn't know where to start lol

Hi dan and welcome to the forum , that's a great introduction and a beautiful looking R6. The R1 and R6 are two completely different bikes, the R6 is light, flickable, has to be revved hard to bet her going, the R1 is the opposite, she needs to be muscled around corners, goes ballistic with only a little bit of throttle and is a bit more portly. Both are fantastic bikes but fur different reasons. An R6 in the hands of a good rider can outclass an R1 in the hands of an average rider on road and track ...... That's what happened when we all went to Donny earlier in the year.... But that's another story.

As peeps have said, try the R1, I don't think you will be disappointed ... But make absolutely sure before you hand the keys of the R6 to your brother

Ooooo now I'm intrigued !!! What's the job of the white connector plug ? I think I'll have to have a look when I get in from work

It connects everything from the back of the bike to the ignition & hand controls is the simplest answer & on the older bikes are prone to corrosion
