Honestly though its like the Ducati 916. A thing of beauty which I can just look at for hours, also it flies (apparently officer!!) Anyhoo I am UK based on the south coast minutes from the ferry to FRANCE !! Englands Racetrack!! where I go often to explore the potential of the bike. Looking forward to interesting posts and tales of biking deeds etc etc.

Just found the forum
Hi to you all out there in in the world of Yamaha ownership. Its good to find a UK based forum. I have owned many bikes over the last oh so many years but the last 4 have been R1's. I have just fulfilled one of my bucket list ambitions by getting my hands on a mint 2006 R1 SP. The missus says I am spending so much time with it I ought to move into the garage.

Ah bienvenue... which in French means "welcome to our country... please train our Gendarmes to catch le rôti de boeuf rapide..."
Welcome...
Welcome...
Riding an R1 is a little like poking a hibernating bear up the arse with a stick, when you doing it, its great fun but when you get caught out it will f**k you up!

Re: Just found the forum
Welcome in Richard, nice opening post. Some pics of your awesome r1 would be great, as we love pics on here. This really is a truly great forum, peeps willing to help one and other out loads of banger on here, sorry I meant banter so you will need a good sense of humour. Some peeps are tall and thin, others you could describe as more super concentrated .... A lot of person in a small package. We all love r1's well apart from Jompy, he loves them, however he believes that Mr Yamaha didn't quite get the design right..... He likes the naked look, and that's not just his woman .....it's his bike too.
As I said welcome to a truly great forum
