Thanks for all the reply. I totally understand what you's are saying, I just though if I was just sensible I would be ok, I have not long sold my 530hp Silvia and although that car would easy do 180mph plus I bairly took it past 100 as I just used to enjoy cruising in it but I know the bike is totally different.
I did take cr500 on the back roads next to the woods as I lived near the country but it wasn't road legal but that was about 5 years ago then the bike got stollen.

May be see if you can get a go on one or get on the back of one and see what it can do before committing,like Steve r1 said about his neighbours R1 I picked up mine 16months ago 08 plate 990 miles on it cos the bloke bought it scared himself witless only time he took it out was to mot station ,lot of money to be sat there doing nothing!

Sorry to hear about your CR500 i've always been in awe of them & wanted to take one for a spin !

yes your right the Silvia is nothing like an R1 , a car you can use for comfort the whole point of a bike especially a sports bike is to ride ! having said that you may find the restraint , either way its your decision of it turns out for you

I had a SV650 which is a great bike to start off on and it won't get you into trouble. After that I got a GSXR600, now compared to the SV this was fast. A 600 sportsbike is plenty for the road and will reward you with the more miles you do, I loved this bike and had it for 3 years before buying a GSXR1000. I then had to learn the power and weight of the bigger bike to enjoy and appreciate it. Even going from the GSXR to the R1 was a learning curve again. You could buy a R1 and say you will just keep it steady but you wont. These litre bikes egg you on and things happen really quick which can end in tears. I've had fast cars but fast bikes are a whole lot different. Whatever you buy be sensible, enjoy and get as much miles under your belt in as many weather conditions you can.

Hi,just thought I would say I ended up just buying a cbr900 streetfighter, I checked the facts and figures (125hp)and looks to be about the same as a modern r6 so hopefully this will be a bit better,I got it at a decent price so hopefully it will be fine.

nothing crazy looking and not the best off streetfighters, it was dropped and broke a fairing so he just changed it but stil has original clocks etc, its got 26k miles,no service history :/ and its the last off the carbed version so ill have to learn how to clean them and tune them properly.

need's to be black i'm not into those new fangled streetfighters they've been doing for the last number of year , i like the rip the plastics off , paint it black & stick some renthals on it look
as for the carbs just stick some Pro FST in the fuel when you fill up to clean them & keep them clean

cheers for that ill get some ordered, he says carbs are perfect just now so that stuff will hopefully keep it that way, ive been reading that i should turn fuel off and run the bike till it cuts out to empty th carbs so i might go do that today.

i surpose you could run the carbs to empty but i don't , infact thinking about it to run it dry would leave a residue of fuel in there which would dry up quicker leaving a coating of sh!te , i just put extra FST in the tank & run it so that its in the carbs carbs .
my bike must stand for 3 - 4 months some times & i've never had a problem & since i've been using FST for the last 3 years i don't expect any .
you'll here alsorts of things , i've heard some people say before they park they're bike for winter they drop the oil & replace it with cheap stuff & when they go to bring the bike out they replace the cheap oil with they're normal oil before they run it , apparently the exhaust gasses that get in the oil are not good for the bike , be fucked if i'm doing that !

use good oil & change it at the specified millage or before

ah ok ill not bother then, its on reserve just now so ill fill it up and add 200ml. yeh ill be changing oil and filter soon with some good quality oil. valave clearances might need done but ill just leave that just now i think

Bike looks good mate - just take ur time after uve passed test to get to know it before u wring it's neck everywhere

Hi,thought if just ask you guys this question about the bike even tho it's not a R1.. Going from neatral to 1st at a stand still is give me a clunk and bike moves ever so slightly and also from neutral to 2nd does it,going from 1st to 2nd at a standstill works fine.

aye mate they do that when engaging a gear !
i've looked at bikes in the past & thought ouch but it's one of those things , could be the clutch needs slight adjustment but then i've seen it on new bikes too !

I did go to adjust the cable but it was already tight with hardly any play at the lever next to the clutch but it had about 2mm play at the lever on the bar.
But that video was perfect thanks,I went and tried hitting it into gear harder and you there was hardly any clunk

Just went out for another look (can't help myself)
I see why there is no free play down at clutch lever.. Obviously it comes back as the clutch engages fully butthe small spring around the arm wasn't strong enough to pull the cable through to take up the slack,if I pushed the clutch hand lever forward that worked. I just removed the cable and its knackered as i can bairly pull the cable through, ill go order anew cable now, is it worth buying a new clutch lever spring?

I'm not even sure if any off this makes sense haha
