Hi all

Brief snap shot - had 4 R1s in my time.
01 - in 01, lasted a month before written off by some numpty!

A 99 and an 02 together, replaced the 99 with a Busa - ran both for 6 years, Great bikes.

A 2010 Big Bang owned for the last 3 years and a HD nightrain owned for the last 12 years - both keepers 😉

Welcome Jonny. Which is your favourite R1?

Hi folks my name is Al
Had a 4xv for 15 years , bought a zzr1400 12 years ago and so the r1 got passed on to the wife
Due to her having an op it has been stood for about 4 years
Decided to get it back on the road this year but unknown to me the fuel tap had leaked so the carbs were in a bit of a mess so on the lookout for replacements

Unfortunately I need to replace no3 carb as one of the float bowl screws was seized and I managed to break the corner off using an impact driver ( schoolboy error I know!!)
Once that is sorted then yes it's an ultrasonic bath for them

Welcome to the forum. There are quite a few current and ex 4xv owners here.

A JIS screwdriver is the best tool to use on the float bowl screws. A #2 Phillips also does the job, plus they have a larger handle.

Did you break the carb body?

As Moise said JIS drivers are best but a dry wall screw bit is almost identical (they are not PZ or Philips)

Is it a clean break? Can you post a photo of the damage?

It's on the corner and it broke across the threaded hole for the float bowl screw so it could be alloy welded and 'retapped

JIS screwdriver all the way, it’s a game changer. Once they’re out you can replace with stainless allen screws

If it's a clean break it might be repairable with the right adhesive. It doesn't take any load, just holds a screw in place, and the remaining 3 screws would probably hold the float bowl anyway.

Not sure what would be best but others here might know.

It’s a pleasure mate, glad she’s running well.
Those carbs have been on the shelf in the man cave for at least 15 years so in 4XV terms they’re hardly used!
