Ello!

Post by scrowe »

Hello to all.

I was pointed in your direction by a friend of mine who had an R1 a while back. I'm new to R1 ownership but not new to bikes. over the years had various machines like FZS600, VFR750, VTR firestorm, FZR1000EXUP, GSXR600, VFR400 and currently have an Aprilia Tuono lurking next to my latest love...

it came to me via an unfortunate passing of a dear friend. there was no way this bike was going to fall into the hands of a scratter so it's now in its new home (aka the lab). I've wanted an R1 ever since i had an FZR1000EXUP RU. it seemed the logical step and compared to the Tuono offers a ver different riding experience.

It's allways good to chat to like minded people with common interests so i look forward to some good banter. :D

Thanks. The bike hasnt been run properly for a year so im recommisioning it at the mo. Oil. filter and so on and now runs sweet.

Tom had a renthal alloy sprocket on the back that was totally fekt!! so all that needed changing.

Getting the MOT done on friday so touch wood.....

The only thing that seems off is the pass light switch on the left bar dosnt work. main bean works fine and so do all the other electrics so i know it's not a bulb issue but electrics are NOT my strong point so a little head scraching to do. :eusa-think:

Welcome in Simon
Nice R1 you have there , how are you finding R1 compared to the FZR1000EXUP RU ? my mate has a FZR1000EXUP but it had standard forks so he made some Gixer usd's fit it , i didn't notice much difference between the two but my mate reckoned that the Exup was quicker off the mark !
The Tuono is it the V-twin or V-four ?
Get another R1 & flat bar it ! not the one you have as it's too nice , i say flat bar as tbh these day's if you say streetfighter it bring's up image's of highly modified ( crap rear end's & whirlitzer paint job's) or bandit's !! wtf !! how can a bandit be a streetfighter . . . . . . ohhhh bugger i'm getting into a rant now . . . . .

Cheers for all the replys guys and wow Jompy, loadsa questions so one by one..
The R1 is getting MOT'd and taxed tomorrow so jurys out on a comparison to the EXUP but with the extra weight of the exup i recon it would be easier to keep the front end down but as the R1 is more powerfull and far lighter.... back when i had my EXUP i could keep up with mates or R1's and Blades in the real world on real roads but on track the R1 would decimate an EXUP 1k.
Heres the one i had before. I loved that bike (till a dozy bint in a Korean yoghurt pot pulled out on me)!!

As tor the Tuono it's a 2004 Gen 1 V-twin with Modified air box, larger Throtle bodies, Aprilia titanium race can and uprated eprom chip so aquits it's self well thats for sure...

I like the Chalk & Cheese aspect of having a V-twin and a 4 and the different riding positions the two offer. The sound of a Lairy twin with a race pipe is one of the finest sounds in the world. However a smooth 4 that howls still gets the hairs up on the back of my neck.

as for "street Fightered" blandits I'm on the same page. BOOOORING!!!!

Yeah, i agree but Gp style can's bugger the fueling beyond belief! V-twins are much more sensitive to back presures and fueling issues. I had a Pipewerx gp can and lost 30 miles of my tank range!! This is the Proper Aprilia Evo Titanium race can so the bike fuels perfectly and sounds epic, it's smaller that the road legal oem can, just. :D
